What a disappointment. The 1st book was incredible... I tin can hardly believe the 2nd was written by the aforementioned author. All of the brazenness and incredible character development that divers the 1st was sincerely absent from this book. Literally 3/4 of information technology was on this vapid secret take a chance which should have been 20 pages Max- I could not believe that I was bored. Only at the very end was there a hint of the jewel that I expected, just in time to end What a fizz kill

It was as activeness packed as the outset volume, but I felt like the flash dorsum to the previous volume in the early on chapters was a bit too long. The whodunnit element regarding who the mole was in the group was too predictable, and the romance plot underdeveloped.
Overall it was an okay read for me; I'm still going to check out the determination in the last book in the serial to see how the loose ends all comes together.

I hateful some of the things they talk about, you know no ordinary teenager would even think of...but this group isn't ordinary. And the ultimate betrayal hurts...ugh..I'm still mad. There is a dear triangle, its last about four pages and Will does pine over these ii girls merely information technology's not the center of the story.

THAT CLIFFHANGER!!! I was not expecting that AT ALL!!! And I'm like dangling hither...waiting for the side by side volume..not knowing when that is.

I didn't like how Will lead on both Elise and Brooke the entire book. For God's sake, he kissed both of them, and refused to pick one. That pissed me off so much.

Anyway. If you loved the first i at to the lowest degree 90%, then go ahead and read this 1 to encounter how the story progresses and the things that are uncovered. Meh. A author tin be forgiven many things, but not caring about their piece of work is by putting up with. Mark Frost tin can spin a complex, imaginative tale, just Brotherhood feels similar he penned it in one sitting with the elementary goal of getting it done, and never went back over information technology. Volition West has lost much. And then so much. He tries to bury his feelings, but he pushes people abroad, is silent, and lone. He struggles to understand his mental and physical abilities. But now he must get things together and Awaken. Spending their summer at the Middle, an sectional prep school, Will, Ajay, Nick, Elise, and Brooke explore the surface area to learn more about the Knights of Charlemagne. The plans and secrets they uncover may pb to the end of the world as nosotros know information technology.

The characters is probably one of the but things that was pretty skillful in this volume. Will's abilities expand and grow as he learns to control and understand it. Merely his love life confused and frustrated me. He had started to take a human relationship with Brooke in the terminal one. But all of the sudden he is also in dear with Elise too. What is going on? Likewise right it the kickoff it was mentioned the Brooke had ignored Will for like six months. Then she kisses him and all is better. I don't go that. Ajay was still great as always, only at sometimes it seemed he was a bit too scared and over dramatic about it. Nick was his funny, kind of dumb, cocky. Without him, the Alliance would get very gloomy. His loyalty to his friends is something you wouldn't expect from the way he acts. Elise is probably my second favorite character after will. Her abilities are and so out of this earth! She is strong and fearless and…somehow deeply in beloved with Will now. Brooke felt a bit apartment at the beginning, only towards the finish she felt more herself.

The pacing off balanced me. The start chapter starts four months later after the final book. And then the next chapter skips three months. In that location information technology started to smooth out. Information technology went on well from there, but I didn't care for the plot. For about ii-thirds of it, it felt like some sort of quest. It was interesting, but I didn't see the need for how long information technology went on. It as well didn't experience like information technology fit right with this kind of story. Only the whole book was still very heady. And that terminal tertiary was much more interesting. So many mysteries were revealed. Something shocking happened that I had never even thought of. Then the ending! Woah. That was a keen cliffhanger.

There was some linguistic communication. A few words here and in that location. Some characters were spying on something and this woman shows up naked. One of the characters makes a comment that he wasn't looking at her face.

Information technology wasn't the all-time of books storywise. Only I will continue on with the final book and hope that it improves a bit. If you like an activity filled book with superpowers and sense of humor, go read it. It is still turning out to be a pretty good series.

Nick became a extravaganza of stupidity (simply I admit I still liked him a lot). Elise was fairly strong still, merely the relationship between her and Will came out of nowhere rather than building even remotely naturally. And Brooke pretty much just became a not-person. Man, I hated her from page ane of this book.

And speaking of Brooke, the whole beginning with her was completely contrived. The author just summed up the situation rather than showing whatever real interaction that could make the reader care about what happened between her and Volition. It did non work for me at all.

That said, the whole underground city matter was very cool. And I'g really, really glad we at least got some glimpses of Dave in this one, because I adored him in the first book.

I volition read the next installment, if for no other reason than to come across more of Dave and discover out the answers to some questions. But I take to say, if this turns out to be longer than a trilogy, I'm going to be very irritated unless the author steps it back up *at least* to the kind of writing that was in the kickoff volume.

*sigh* I really, really enjoyed the first book in this series. The characters are all so fun to me. In fact, the entire story is merely pure fun. It's a cute story too. I actually loved watching these characters abound into their cognition of themselves and their abilities. We were left on a serious cliff at the end, which I despise!!! What else do I despise, love triangles!!!!!! Gaaaaah!!!! I saw this ane developing sorta early on in the book, and it literally made me cringe. What I can say in a positive notation is that information technology didn't become a major plot point, or the main focus of the story. So at to the lowest degree that was a minor salvation.

I did have a couple of other issues with the book. Issues that would spoil you. Do I plan to go on the series? Hell yeah I exercise!!! I take no idea when the next volume is coming out, so that bothers me a fleck. I do enjoy this series. It's a low-cal and fun read!!

The 1 affair that is a complete failure in Alliance is the romance. I hate that Will leads both Elsie and Brooke on and I besides couldn't stand the kisses and declarations of love that came out of nowhere.

I can't think of anything that I liked about Alliance and I'm hoping that Rouge redeems The Paladin Prophecy serial.

While there are novelty points with intriguing nuggets of theosophy (really the only reason why I've read the two books thus far), the plot just seems to meander aimlessly every which way. The characters aren't fleshed out every bit much every bit I'd like them to be, nor do they feel natural in their interactions (the usage of slang in both books only comes across as annoying and awkward. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind slang at all, only to quote my teen niece who read the book forth with me, "who the hell talks like that!?" Conversations just audio weird and cringe-worthy at times.). Despite all of that, I do have to acknowledge that I find Nick stupidly endearing and I like the idea of (view spoiler)[Elise and Volition getting together (hide spoiler)]

For ane thing, the characterization left a fleck to be desired. The characters were adequately stereotypical and generic. Characters are the life blood of a series, and none of these characters were compelling enough for me to root for them, especially Nick, who was the typical meathead type of lumbering jock. The background of the story is convoluted and not well explained. Some of the terms that the characters used such as "The Never Was" and "The other team" seemed childish to me. And then much of this novel was formulaic from the pre-teen love triangle to the betrayal from within to the evil authority figures. The novel was ultimately forgettable and didn't stand out to me in any way. On the plus side, the writing was pretty solid and I don't have any quibbles almost the author'southward ability to write prose. Given that I'thou not the target audition, take this review with a grain of table salt.

Alarm: this review may contain spoilers for The Paladin Prophecy, although not for Brotherhood.

I'm serious when I say I'grand even so absolutely in love with everything in this series, fifty-fifty after the 2d time I'm reading it. Maybe even more so.

Mark Frost shows how astounding he is as a writer far more than in Alliance than even in The Paladin Prophecy. The second book in the series deals with Volition finding out more secrets about the prophecy he and his roommates are office of, culminating in the exploration of his worst nightmares.

One of the things I admittedly beloved about this 2d installment is that Frost includes so much foreshadowing. I didn't realize this the first time I read the novel, and peradventure not even the second time, but in that location'south and then much most Mr. Elliot and Brooke that lead up to the plot, if you lot know where to look. That'southward the matter, though, is that Frost creates these warnings ever so suddenly, you near have to be rereading the book to notice them.

And then there's the style Frost crafts his characters. It is obvious that he never had the intention for the roommates to be "sidekicks" in any way. Their personalities nearly outshine Will's at some points, and Frost also makes information technology a betoken to deeply delve into their lives and interests. I think I've ever felt this way, but Nick is probably my favorite graphic symbol, because there'southward so much more than to him than you see on the surface, and this is shown even meliorate in Alliance than in The Paladin Prophecy, although it's certainly yet budding from the beginning.

Together, Nick, Ajay, and Elise provide this amazing comic relief that I oasis't seen coming from multiple characters in a long time. The way they argue is something that I would love to accept within a grouping of friends, and honestly, I would love to accept all of them as my all-time friends, and certainly not just because of their talents. If I could pick a book family to be a part of, it would be the five roommates from this series. I would likely be as scared every bit complain as much equally Ajay, merely if I were role of this group I'd never worry about fitting in once more.

I cannot wait to read Rogue once again and immerse myself fully in the series for another time. I'll probably starting time the final installment tonight and finish over the weekend.

To put it simply, I just love this series so much.

So, I could have sworn that I reviewed The Paladin Prophecy, but upon further investigations information technology seems that I did not. The long and short of it: The Paladin Prophecy was a really fun novel focusing a group of kids who observe themselves knee deep in some crazy shit. They take these powers and they have NO idea who they can trust and it's only and so much fun! I mean, Mark Frost co-produced Twin Peaks for crying out loud. I dearest when authors tie in historical figures to these science fiction story lines. Makes you lot think, "I wonder if stuff like this actually happened." Anyway, I devoured this novel and have preordered the third installment. The Paladin Prophecy series has proved to be actually heady, twisty and turny, and -at times- downright funny. Read information technology! You'll dear it!

Defiently not a disappointment and wort continuing the trilogy. The third volume comes out this fall, something I am anticipating.

As skilful, or even better than the first ane. The only bad point was at the outset when information technology recounted some of the stuff that happened in the start book.
